Yes this is horrific Sarah. Thought you might like to hear a good story though. I have mild scoliosis, plus sciatica, and and MRI scan of some years ago showed all sorts of spinal degeneration. I was advised that a spinal fusion might be necessary as my pain was increasing. I subsequently saw a neuro-surgeon here in London about three years ago, on the NHS, who told me that had I not done Pilates and various other things to keep myself mobile for over 20 years, I would now be struggling to walk un-aided. He said that surgery was the absolute last resort and told me to go away and carry on doing what I was doing and to only come back if something changed dramatically. I am so glad I followed his advice and not the advice I received previously.
